Horseshoes
I made horseshoes the other day. Horseshoes are a Springfield, Illinois dish that was invented in 1928 by two gentlemen who were working as chefs in the Old Leland hotel. I have seen several recipes for this particular dish, my dad’s recipe being the easiest. You need 1/3 milk, 1/3 velveeta, and 1/3 mayonnaise. To this mixture, you add chili powder and a pinch of cumin. Add all those...

Another Gets Linked
In the same vein of my Not if but when post, I noticed that kottke just linked to Matt Siber’s Untitled This is excellent, I question though if kottke actually found this by digging through Not If But When for links to Brian’s friend’s sites. I would think he would have posted this sooner if he found it himself. I wonder where this meme got started.

Testing Webdesign
One of the most frustrating things about web design is keeping all of the browsers and architectures around so that plenty of testing can be done. There is a company that is providing a service that is truly spectacular. They provide screenshots from specific browsers and operating systems displaying URLs you specify. This service is a godsend, for those who can afford it. Can someone please...

Brasserie Jo’s
Jamie’s dad took us out to eat the other night. He took us to Brasserie Jo’s. It’s a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant. It was excellent. Jamie and her dad each got the grilled skate. A skate is sort of like a manta ray (a flying fish). Jamie’s mom got the shrimp bag. It’s a bag made of filo dough with the shrimp inside. The whole think is baked. I got the special, tenderloin, mashed potatoes, and...

MOST and Text Pattern
I went to a workshop that covered Mac OS X Server 10.3 over the past two days. It was run by Dean Shavitt and was excellent. Dean is a great guy and seems to be a genuine troubleshooter. I really appreciate some of the insights he brought into the world of OS X server and network management. You will notice some of the results of his workshop in Walker Tech over the course of the next few...

Not If But When
So, apparently Brian Ulrich showed up in some magazine, the he just plain blew up in the blogging/artsy community. The first I heard of it was when a friend of mine linked to him because he reads Arkitip alot and was amazed to see a link to Brian there. He posted it and so I was informed. I was later told that the reason he showed up was because he got a mention in a recent edition of the...

Air Conditioning
None of the apartment’s I’ve had in Chicago have had air conditioning. This is not chance. Smaller buildings generally have no central air as that is the expense of the looming towers of apartments. Also, window air conditioning, and air conditioning in general is really really expensive. It costs a pretty penny to keep that electricity flowing to those cooling coils and fans. I love summers in...
